We welcome our new Worship Leader, Jim Gilbert, to First Reformed Church and look forward to his Music Ministry here. His first service here was Thanksgiving Eve 2017. Jim is a worship leader, organist, pianist and loves to sing and use his voice to Glory of God. Jim lives in Midland Park, two blocks from his sister, brother-in-law and family. His mother and father live in a retirement village in South Jersey. He has two grown children that are both happily married and live in Arizona and Iowa. Jim graduated from Baptist Bible College, Clarks Summit, PA, where he majored in Church music, voice and organ. During college, he served for 4 years in college choir leadership and a male quartet that traveled the US to minister and promote the college. After graduation, he returned to his High School, where he taught and ministered at Hackensack Christian Schools as a High School Choral and Bible teacher.
In 1989, the Lord led him to use his musical gifts at Pascack Bible Church in Hillsdale, NJ, where he served as Worship and Music director until 2005. Also in 1989, Jim began working at Empire Transport Service, which is now EmpireCLS Worldwide Chauffeured Services, where he worked until October 2017. Those years brought many experiences in the HR and Information Technology fields. Jim has served as the Worship director at Emerson Bible Church, Emerson, NJ and the Organist at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ridgewood, NJ. Jim has an appreciation for all types of music from Opera to classic Rock and Roll, yet he loves to worship his Lord “through psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.” (Col 3:16).
Jim's life verse is 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 - "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong." He is a NY Jets and NY Mets fan, but don't hold that against him. Jim loves to cook a good chili, and bake a good boxed chocolate cake.
