This Week at First Reformed ~ 8/12/2018

Good afternoon everyone! This is the day that the Lord has made.

Let us rejoice and be glad in it!

This week, Pastor Christopher continued his sermon series, "I Will Follow". Through this new series, Pastor Christopher is seeking to show the challenge and blessing of being a Christ-follower. Most Christians are believers, many are not followers. To be a follower involves action, risk, depending on the Spirit, and sacrifice. This series will inspire people to take their faith to another level and beyond the pews.

Today's message was "Losing In Order to Win", based on Mark 8:34-38. A lot of people get stuck in "ruts". Mark 8 tells us how Jesus tells us to deny ourselves and follow Him with action. Learn more about that in this week's Christopher's Chat below.

We welcomed Ellen MacLeay back as Guest Pianist today. Also, we sang a couple of VBS songs for the congregation. We hope you watch this week's worship service on YouTube.

Vacation Bible School

Thank you to all the wonderful teachers, station leaders and volunteers who helped make this year's VBS a huge success. 20 children attended and learned how Jesus rescues us through every storm of life.

Women's Fellowship Breakfast

The next Women's Fellowship Breakfast will be on Saturday, August 18th at 9:30am in the Clements' Room. This will be a pot luck breakfast. Please sign up on the bulletin board, or online by clicking HERE, if you are coming and what you can bring. Please note all women are invited, whether or not you are able to donate something. We always have more than enough food for all. Please indicate if you need a ride.

End of Summer Reading Challenge

Round out your summer by reading The Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis. There are seven books. They are relatively quick reads and carry a Christian theme of salvation. We are hoping to develop a multi-generational discussion group for the series. We will begin in September, dates/times TBD. There will be a sign-up sheet to keep readers informed. Please speak with Pastor Christopher or Kathleen Shanahan for more information.
