This Week at First Reformed ~ 11/25/2018

Good afternoon everyone! This is the day that the Lord has made.

Let us rejoice and be glad in it!

This morning, we welcomed the Reverend Jean A. Holmes as Guest Pastor. Rev. Holmes is an honorably retired minister member of the Presbytery of the Palisades. A graduate of Drew Theological Seminary in Madison, NJ, Rev. Holmes has been ordained as teaching elder in the PC(USA) since 1987. Serving the church in many capacities, she has most recently focused her ministry on churches in transition. She is currently enjoying retirement and living with her husband of 46 years, Stewart, in Wanaque, New Jersey. Jean loves knitting and reading. Most of all, she loves her grandsons, Russell George Holmes (6 years) and Christopher Stewart Holmes (3 years).

Rev. Holmes' message was entitled "Where's the Hope?", based on scripture from Matthew 25:31-46 and Ezekiel 34:11-16 and 20-24.

Pastor Christopher will return on November 30. Please pray for a time of restoration and strengthening. Please contact Evelyn Leseberg or Catherine Wasdyke with any pastoral concerns.

Consistory Nominations

At the Annual Fall Congregational Meeting held on Sunday, November 18th, the following members were elected to serve as Elder: Kevin Kooistra and Frank Arnone; Deacon: Kimball Woelfel and Linda Casbar. As per the RCA Book of Church Order, their names will be printed in the bulletin for three consecutive weeks. During this time, if you have any valid reservations about their nomination, please contact Pastor Christopher.

Man Up

Man Up will meet on Wednesday, November 28th at 6:30pm at the Saddle Brook Diner on Market Street.

Food Pantry

The Saddle Brook Community Food Pantry is getting ready for their Christmas package pickup on Saturday, December 15th. We are in need of $20 Walmart gift cards and welcome any donations you are able to provide. Please see Frank Arnone or Alex Kooistra with any questions.

**NEW** Multimedia Team Members

We are looking for some volunteers to begin a multimedia team. You will utilize some basic skills. No prior experience required. This is a perfect service opportunity to "get your feet wet". Team members will provide a seamless feed of PowerPoint slides that will be projected on the screen for the congregation to view during our services. Team members will serve one Sunday a month. If you are interested, come speak to Jim Gilbert at the piano or drop him an email at jrg@jamesgilbert.us.

Sunday School Christmas Vespers Play and Dinner

We invite you to join us for our annual Sunday School Christmas Play and Vespers Dinner downstairs in the Van Wyk Fellowship Hall on Sunday, December 9th at 4pm. This year's play is "Footprints in the Snow". We are in need of desserts for our dinner. If you are interested in attending the dinner, please sign up online HERE or on the hallway bulletin board, so we can prepare enough food for everyone.

Christmas Poinsettias and Book of Remembrance

Forms for Christmas poinsettias and Book of Remembrance are available on the table at the back of the Sanctuary. All forms and donations are due back by Sunday, December 16th. The poinsettias will be placed in the Sanctuary for the Christmas Eve service and may be picked up after the service. Forms and donations may be placed in the offering plate. If you have any questions, please speak with Evelyn Leseberg.

Prayer Cloth Ministry

Have you have placed someone on the prayer list and would like to have a prayer cloth for them? Please contact Kathy Alia or Winnie Caputo. Prayer cloths are also available for special occasions such as baptisms, graduations, confirmations, births, marriages and special anniversaries. For more information on the prayer cloth ministry, click HERE.

Coffee Hour

Please check the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board outside the upstairs kitchen, and sign up if you are able to host coffee hour.

All items must be of usable quality. We cannot accept toys, stuffed animals, books, cookware, dishes, curtains, pillows, breakable items or furniture.
