This Week at First Reformed ~ 12/15/2019

Good afternoon everyone! This is the day that the Lord has made.

Let us rejoice and be glad in it!

This week is the Third Sunday of Advent. We lit three candles on the Advent Wreath this morning. The first candle is the Candle of Expectation and Hope. Our is hope is based on the trust that God's wondrous promises will be fulfilled. The second candle is the candle of peace. It reminds us that Christ's coming and promise of return are the true sources of peace. The third candle is the candle of Joy. It reminds us that our joy is made complete in Christ alone!

This year, the candles are being lit by those who have lost loved ones this year. Today, the candles were lit by Joey and Tommy Van Winkle. The second candle was lit by Herb and Zach Larsen.

Pastor Christopher's message was "Shout Aloud and Sing For Joy", based on scripture from Isaiah 12:2-6 and Matthew 1:18-25.

Consistory Nominations

At the annual Fall Congregational Meeting on Sunday, December 1st, the following members were elected to the office of Deacon: Mary Marino and Michael Coleman. As per the Reformed Church in America Book of Church Order, their names are being printed in the bulletin for three consecutive weeks following the meeting. They are printed in today's bulletin and will be once again next Sunday. During this time, if you have any valid reservations about their election, please contact Pastor Christopher. As always, continue to pray for Mary, Michael, and the rest of the Consistory for their leadership and work.

Man Up

Man Up, our Men's Ministry, will meet this Thursday, December 19th at 6:30pm at the Saddle Brook Diner on Market St.

Calling All Carolers:

We invite everyone from our congregation and community to go Caroling on Sunday, December 22nd at 5pm. Take an hour break from the gift wrapping, football games and preparation for Christmas. Let's spread the Joy of Christmas throughout the neighborhood around the church. After caroling, come back for Hot Chocolate and Cookies! Donations of cookies or other desserts are welcome and appreciated. Come in your favorite Christmas Hat and Gloves! Feel free to invite your family and friends. Parents and grandparents - feel free to bring the kids for a great family time and great memories! Let's spread the Light of Christmas around the neighborhood. Snow or shine!

Christmas Poinsettias and Book of Remembrance

Poinsettias will be placed in the Sanctuary for Christmas Eve. Forms and donations may be placed in the offering plate. As a reminder, Book of Remembrance donations are deposited in a separate fund for capital improvements. You may make a donation in memory of a loved one or an event. Additional forms are on the table in the back of the Sanctuary. The deadline is TODAY! If you have any questions, please see Evelyn Leseberg.
